Haarlem Overdrijft

Haarlem Overdrijft is a real-life festival that takes place in the city of Haarlem, located in the Netherlands. Founded by Lois Notebaart, Toine Ploeger, Birgit Emte and Max Caminita in 2020. It is an annual event that aims to bring together various forms of art and culture, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their work.

The festival was founded during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating the resilience and creativity of the organizers. By launching Haarlem Overdrijft, they sought to create a vibrant and engaging experience for the community, offering a temporary escape from the difficulties brought about by the global health crisis. Against the backdrop of uncertainty and fear, we summoned the collective courage to celebrate the beauty within the city. With a lot of pushbacks we still managed to create two editions (2020 and 2021) giving the local artist a place to show their work and bend the stiffness of the city in a different shape.

The festival was a two-day experience mostly on water, aptly named "Haarlem Overdrijft." In the face of adversity, we felt compelled to create an event that would transcend the limitations imposed by the global health crisis, a celebration that would amplify the spirit of Haarlem and its artist.
Like a painter wielding a brush, I strove to transform the canvas of the city into a vibrant tapestry of culture and creativity.

Haarlem Overdrijft embraces a wide range of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, music, theater, dance, film, and literature. The festival program encompasses exhibitions, performances, workshops, screenings, and interactive installations, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The festival venues are scattered throughout Haarlem, utilizing both traditional cultural institutions and unconventional spaces. This approach not only allows for the discovery of hidden gems within the city, but also encourages attendees to explore different neighborhoods and engage with the local community.

By organizing Haarlem Overdrijft, the festival's founders hope to contribute to the cultural landscape of Haarlem, nurturing a sense of community and fostering an appreciation for the arts. Through the power of artistic expression, Haarlem Overdrijft endeavors to inspire, provoke thought, and create lasting memories for all who attend.

The festival has been paused until further notice. Trough social media channels, further information will be announced.
